In 1903, Julia Ideson graduated from The University of Texas and took charge of a modest Houston library. What followed was a decades-long effort that transformed that small institution into the largest library in the South and produced one of the most celebrated examples of Spanish Renaissance architecture in the region — a building still considered an architectural masterpiece a century later. This film tells the story of a remarkable woman whose ambition, vision, and dedication shaped Houston’s civic and cultural identity.
