Another area preserved by the US National Park Service are historic trails. There are two in Texas. The El Camino Real Adentro National Historic Trail sits in West Texas crossing the border with New Mexico.

This trail marks a string of sites like the El Camino Real de Los Tejas. It’s a series of sites that carried travelers from Mexico City to Santa Fe. The route enters Texas in the town of San Elizaro and stops at a series of churches and missions then runs through El Paso as it continues North.

These trails rely on partnerships with park-friendly groups, private landowners and local governments.
