The national parks of Texas are a gift, a diverse mix of sites where visitors can climb rugged peaks, kayak beautiful waterways, discover our state’s rich history and experience an endless choice of adventures. In many ways, the story of our state’s parks is the story of Texas itself. These special places preserve our natural resources and they speak of our history, beginning with a reef that dates back more than 260 million years and ending with an intimate look at 20th century politics.
Visitors can see rock art made by ancient peoples, walk the same paths as Spanish colonists and experience life at a frontier fort. They can choose between mountains and beaches, or deserts and forests. And they can follow an ever-changing mix of migrating birds or see endangered baby sea turtles step into the ocean for the very first time.
Narrated by former Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, the film tells the story of parks that protect our landscapes, conserve our wildlife and illuminate our culture. They offer refuge and recreation to millions of visitors each year. And they belong to all of us. The National Parks of Texas: In Contact With Beauty shares how these parks were created and reveals the secrets they hold. Travel with us on a trip around the state and across time to experience the past, present and future of the national parks of Texas.
