‘The Daytripper’ wins three Emmy Awards in 2024

Since its premiere in 2009, The Daytripper has been an essential part of Texas PBS programming. This year, the revered travel series took home three Emmy Awards, including an Outstanding Program Host award for The Daytripper’s creator and executive producer, Chet Garner.

Garner has won seven Lonestar Emmys for hosting since his first award in 2013. In addition to Garner’s recognition, the program also received accolades for its episodes about Giddings, TX and Helotes, TX. The Giddings episode, which took viewers to the Texas Wendish Heritage Museum, Dime Box Distillery and many other spots, won the Texas Heritage Award. The Helotes episode won the Magazine Program Award for its focus on the town’s rich outdoors and historic walking tour.

The three Lonestar Emmy victories this year brought the program’s tally to 14 Emmys, accumulated over 15 years of the series, as well as 150,000 miles travelled in Texas. With each episode focusing on a different Texas town, the program has uncovered countless hidden gems found across the Lonestar State.

While the series consists of trip guides, its accompanying website also displays blog posts and podcast episodes all anchored by Garner, a “bonafide Texplorer.”
Now in its 15th season, Garner and the rest of the team behind The Daytripper will continue to traverse the Texas roads and deliver PBS viewers thorough trip guides, complete with the best food, culture and outdoors recommendations all in one program.
