Made in Texas is a new PBS series featuring Texas filmmakers and celebrating the diverse storytelling, cultural richness, and vibrant film community of our state. The Texas PBS stations will leverage social media, broadcast, and community engagement to showcase what makes Texas unique.
Starting in October 2024, this Texas PBS initiative is designed to draw attention to high-quality, film-projects created right here in the Lone Star State. A new program will be featured monthly.
The series begins with Chasing the Tide, the dramatic story of a couple who walked every inch of Texas’ seven barrier islands – a distance of more than 370 miles.
It also includes the success story about a man with downs syndrome who creates an independent life and business in Fort Worth, as well as the film about a San Antonio veteran and visual artist – Jesse Treviño. In December, the series highlights Texans living with early onset Parkinson’s. In January, we interview former President George W. Bush about his work showcasing immigrants in Texas. The series highlights the story of a family who went from migrant laborers to becoming an award-winning, Tejano Music Hall of Fame band. We tell the story of a guy who walks into a bar and walks out with a donated kidney. The series wraps up by delving into the story of Archaeologist Michael Collins who risked it all to save 30 acres deep in the heart of Texas and reveal it as one of the most significant cultural sites in the Western Hemisphere.
